Harvest & Drying

HARVEST & DRYING

Depending on the various farming methods each farmer employs, the harvesting and drying processes vary. Some forget to give the leaves enough time to reach a specific age, which prevents the leaves from producing enough alkaloid concentration. Additionally, the leaves must be dried with extreme caution.

To prevent contamination from humans and birds, we prefer to dry indoors. We make sure that our product is selected from mature trees that are ready to harvest, the leaves remain on the tree for an adequate duration of time to create the desired alkaloids and the drying process is controlled with an emphasis on clean production.

The alkaloid concentration of a Kratom leaf will be lower when it gets harvested too early than if its gets mature.

For this industry, the frequent early harvesting of the Kratom leaves is a major problem. A Kratom tree should be at least 5 years old for farm plant and for wild trees, even up to 6 years old. Some farmers would rather not wait that long, especially if they have urgent orders to satisfy.

Excellent classification leaves are determined by two factors:
First, choose a suitable tree to harvest; Trees must be at least 5 years old or have flowered to be eligible for harvest, and it is preferable to collect leaves from wild plants that are at least 10 years old and second allow sufficient time between 90 days and 120 days to harvest leaves from the same tree, Some forget to give the leaves enough time to reach a specific age, which prevents the leaves from producing enough alkaloid concentration. The alkaloid concentration of a Kratom leaf will be lower if it is picked too early than if it is matured. This has a significant impact on the quality and causes the product to be of worse quality.

According to our understanding of product safety, there is only 2 way to dry the leaf, which is indoor on shelves and indoor string dried. Different methods are used by different Kratom producers to dry the leaves before it is crushed and milled. Here is a list of the various methods:

  • Outdoor on the ground
  • Outdoor on shelves
  • Wet leaf in plastic bags
  • Indoor on the floor
  • Indoor on shelves
  • Indoor String Dried

According to our understanding of product safety, there is only 2 way to dry the leaf, which is indoor on shelves and indoor string dried.

Outdoor on the ground

The explanation is that drying leaves on the ground has a far larger risk of contamination than drying them outdoor on shelves, when the leaves are dried Outdoor on the ground, there is a chance that birds, other animals, or even people walking over them could contaminate them.

Outdoor on shelves

When the leaves are dried Outdoor on shelves, there is a chance that birds, animals and other contamination like dust can still contaminate them.

Wet leaf in plastic bag

We believe that placing damp leaves in a plastic bag and leaving it outside in the sun for a few days is the worst way to ferment or otherwise destroy the leaves, this process is used to make the infamous Bentuangie Kratom, We believe that this method poses a great risk to the consumer because it is ideal for all types of bacteria and fungi to grow in.

Indoor on the floor

When the leaves are dried Indoor on the floor, pets such as cats, dogs, rats or even people walking over them could contaminate them.

The safest drying from all contamination above is Indoor on shelves & Indoor String Dried

Indoor on shelves

Indoor on shelves has a problem in that if the leaves are piled too high on one shelf, they may be damaged and start to turn brown, similar to the wet leaf in plastic bag drying method and ideal for all types of bacteria and fungi to grow in. Depending on the space of the drying facility being used, this weakness can be anticipated by uniformly distributing the leaves on the rack.

Indoor String Dried

Most people agree that this method can ensure an overall better and cleaner final product because the leaves won’t dry out too quickly and the air will be distributed evenly over the entire surface of the leaf. Although obviously slow and expensive to produce, this method is ideal for managing the plant’s ability to preserve its alkaloids.

We make sure the leaves are dried indoor “String Dried”, out of the sun, the best and safest way to carry out this technique is as described. detail an explanation of the string dried approach on our product menu. https://seberuangbotanical.com/product-category/green-maengda/
